Review of Linux Compatibility

The Canopus Grass Valley ADVC110 is an external Audio/Video converter.

It takes raw input from analog sources. The quality is good but not better than from a good video capture card (for example the FlyView2000, which had a very nice quality). The sound is a little low but without the noise of VHS, even if taken from VHS cassettes. The installation is very easy, simply plug the device into the FireWire port, then use dvgrab, kdenlive, kino, or any other Linux video grabber.

The device is quite expensive with a price from 180$ to over 300$, if found new, because it is not any longer produced by Canopus.

  • Easy to install

  • no external adapter (it uses FireWire power)
  • sound without noise.

  • Quite expensive device
