Review of Linux Compatibility

The VisionTek Killer 2100 (model ID 900317) is a PCI-Express network card, which is intended mainly for gaming purposes, and is equipped with 128MB DDR2 RAM.

The card has the PCI ID 1957:00b6 and is recognized by the kernel in the following way:

07:00.0 Power PC [0b20]: Freescale Semiconductor Inc Device [1957:00b6] (rev 12)
Subsystem: Bigfoot Networks, Inc. Device [1a56:1103]

The VisionTek Killer 2100 is not supported under Linux. Bigfoot Networks (now bought out by Qualcomm) have stated that due to the network stack in Linux not suffering the same “restrictions” as the Windows network stack they see no reason to add hardware support:

Unfortunately, no Linux drivers exist for the Killer 2100. The card was designed to improve Windows networking performance, and those restrictions don’t exist in Linux, so a driver was not created. I’m afraid driver creation has ceased for this product (bug-fix support still exists), so there likely won’t be a Linux driver coming.

Apologies for the inconvenience,
